Fire Rated Gates Horizontal Sliding

This section will be updated soon !

Scope

Sliding fire rated doors are normally used for large openings in fire rated walls of buildings like industrial warehouses, factory sheds, malls, garages, hangars, fair halls and similar where forklifts or bigger transportation means or goods have to pass through.

They are used also in smaller formats because their encumbrances while opening are less if compared to normal hinged doors.

Description

Metallic doors tested according to the standard UNI 9723 for low traffic purposes composed of rail for upper side made of profiled high resistance steel with low friction carriages pre-drilled for the fastening with screws or expansion screws. Special labyrinths against fire and smoke penetration. Leaves made of modular panels flush joining of double metal sheet with special fire fighting core total thickness 80 mm (120 mm for the version 180 minutes of resistance) without lock and recessed handles on both sides. Gate without sill, lower edge of the leaves with cavity for a floor-bolt to slide in it to install beyond the wall opening. Counterweight for the self closing of the gate with rope and thermal fuse. If ordered with electromagnet the thermal fuse is omitted. Protection casing made of press-folded steel sheets for the upper rail and the counter-weight. Thermo expanding gaskets on all overlapping labyrinths and under the leaf. Primer varnishing with epoxy-polyester powders oven hardened light grey RAL 7035. Packing on disposable one-way metal containers.
Manufactured dimensions: from small doors up to 18 sq.m. per leaf.
Weight approx 45 kg. /sq.m.
Conformity mark metallic label.
Copy of certificate or homologation.
Conformity declaration.
Booklet with installation and maintenance instructions.
Door suitable for internal uses without strong air-draughts to be installed either on one or the other side of a flush and plumb wall. Assemble by qualified staff only.

Choice of Type and Comments About Costs

Because of the “hanging structure” sliding doors have a lower square meter price and a minor opening encumbrance if compared to the big rotation (hinged) doors, for this reason they are normally preferred if the specific situation of the building site allows it.

To see if and which basic model of sliding door con be installed in the desired place the planned widths and heights or the real ones present at site have to be checked.

About widths, there must be enough space at side of the wall opening to slide open the leaf, the side should be free of obstacles and long at least LN + 250 mm where LN is the wall opening expressed in mm (normal version, no extra price). If the space is not enough consider the use of a 2 leaves sliding door or a monolateral or bilateral telescopic door (higher price), they reduce the need of length of the sides to ½ LN + 250 mm. Furthermore if the 250 mm occupied by the counter-weight at the closing side of the 1 leaf door reduces too much the passage “opposite side counter-weight” (extra price) or “off axis counter-weight” (extra price) can be considered with a reduced encumbrance of 100 to 120 mm, see drawings hereafter.

About height verify if there is a portion of at least 250 mm of vertical structure above the wall opening on which to fasten the rail of the sliding door (normal version, no extra price). If the space is less or there is no vertical structure because the considered wall opening H is from floor to the ceiling a supporting structure should be made by the client or “Beam within height” can be ordered to us (extra price) on which to fasten the rail. In this case the net passage height will be 250 mm less.

Drawings for Compulsory and Optional Accessories

After having chosen the type of sliding gate the accessories and other details can be decided.
The compulsory accessories needed for the safety or due to the door’s dimensions are:

SAM SHOCK ABSORBER, to mitigate the final stroke of the leaf on the frame.

V.T. VISCONTROLLER (CRUISE CONTROL) breaking device, to avoid acceleration of leaf and keep constant the closing speed to approx 30 cm/second.

SIZES “NORMAL” or “SP” or “R” if the length of the leaf/leaves is much more than the height.
Rules for the use of “SIZES”:
Maximum width of wall opening LN without “SIZES” = (HN – 800) x 2
Maximum width of wall opening LN with “SIZES NORMAL” = (HN – 800) x 4
Maximum width of wall opening LN with “SIZES SP” = (HN – 1150) x 6
Width wall opening LN with “SIZES R” = over previous case

BEAM WITHIN HEIGHT if there is no portion of vertical structure above the opening to fasten the sliding rail and a supporting beam must be created. Beam of metal tubular section mm 100 x 250 to fasten to the ceiling or to the vertical walls at side. Plasterboard coverage mm 25 thick to be installed on site at customer’s expenses.

The optional accessories are:

ELECTROMAGNETS 24 V d.c. 3 types with different retaining strength depending on leaf’s dimensions.

NC RELEASE BUTTON

FIRUX I.S.D SUPPLIER control device, controls the electromagnet/s and includes 2 thermal detectors. There are plugs to connect more heath or smoke detectors not included in the price, choice of type and sensibility left to the client, accessory available on the market or quoted by us to request.

PEDESTRIAN DOOR 2 sizes available with standard threshold mm 92 or with depressed threshold mm 32 (extra price) or without threshold (higher extra price), with or without Slash model panic crossbar. In case of pull-to-exit pedestrian door and panic bar or generally push-to-exit pedestrian door all the gate must be distanced from the wall by a compulsory SPACER 60 mm.

NIGHT LOCK

SPECIAL DOOR STOP, in case right after the closing side there is an obstacle for example a pillar.

SUPPORTING METAL STRUCTURE custom made for the specific case of the client made of metallic tubular section mm 100 x 250 to fasten to the ceiling or to the vertical walls at side. The structure can be filled by client with fire rated blocks or plasterboards.

SPECIAL FINISHING COLOR to choice from RAL range.

Closing by Thermal Fuse or Electromagnet

The sliding door must be closed when a fire breaks out. If in that moment the gate is open the counter-weight by means of the accumulated gravity has the force to close the door but it must be controlled by a suitable device intervening at the appropriate time. There are two devices that fulfill this task, the thermal fuse and the electromagnet. The thermal fuse works mechanically (it melts at approx 120°C) and is only sensible to heat. The electromagnet is electrically operated and can be sensible to heat and smoke. The choice requested at order time of the gate is up to the buyer who assumes responsibility for it.

Need of V.T. Viscontroller (Cruise Control) Breaking Device

Without a breaking device sliding doors close accelerating the speed of the leaves, the wider they are the more the speed increases and the bigger the more heavy. This can be very dangerous for people passing through. For this reason they have to be fitted with a device which controls the closing speed. This task is fulfilled by the V.T. VISCONTROLLER which limits the speed to approx 1 meter every 4 seconds.
Being option of the client to buy a similar device from another supplier the client is allowed to order doors without breaking device. In this case the client has to send us following declaration issued at our name together with the order: “With reference to the order of ….. pieces of fire rated sliding doors of dimensions………the underwritten company confirms to order them to Endoors srl. without breaking devices and exonerates Endoors srl. from any responsibility which may arise from the missing of such devices which will be provided by another supplier and confirming to be aware that a braking device has to be installed and adjusted by skilled personnel only.
