Foreword

GLAZED FIRE DOORS with additional performances can be single or double leaf, complex doors, openable windows or fixed windows or, in bigger sizes, partitions. Available according to customer request, fire certified for integrity and insulation and smoke resistance for 30 – 60 – 90 – 120 minutes, made with the largest possible glass panels inserted in metal profiles as slim as possible, to obtain overall attractive aesthetic solutions that leave maximum transparency and instill lightness and elegance in the observer. The profiles, in addition to metal, are made of special fire protection and insulation materials. The multi-layered glass is interspersed with transparent gels which become opaque and expand at high temperatures, creating a barrier to flames and an insulating shield against the passage of heat.

They are fire protection shutters which for aesthetic reasons and for the need of transparency or light supply, are mainly installed in buildings such as banks, museums, shopping centres, hotels, theatres, public offices, restaurants, factories, warehouses to compartmentalise entrance halls, corridors, stairs, doors and windows adjacent to external emergency stairs, passages, separations for meeting rooms or between offices and warehouses or similar situations. Doors and windows can also be combined with side panels or fanlights, in this case called “complex”.

They are individually marked and labelled with data of fire resistance class, the standards with which they were certified and various other parameters depending on type. Among fireproof shutters, this is undoubtedly the product with the highest unit price, fundamentally due to the high price of fireproof glass.

Special recommendations for this type of shutters

Fire rated EI glasses are heavy, fragile and expensive and therefore they must be handled with the utmost care and only by expert personnel. They break immediately if placed with the edge on protrusions, pebbles, uneven floors, etc. they must be placed on clean supports that guarantee the 90 angle at the base. If placed on the ground and supported by tilting them against the wall, the glass will stagger and bend in a short time and may no longer fit into the frame. Small imperfections in fire-rated glass are normal due to their manufacturing process and can only be claimed if they exceed certain limits in size and shape specified in the document “acceptability of EI glass imperfections”.

Large and heavy glasses must be installed with the help of special lifters which must be brought to the construction site and positioned in front at one or the other side of the openings. Consider this aspect when ordering frames so to have the glazing bead on the preferred side.

All shutters must only be installed dry. Any overlapping of lime-based cement mortar around the frame can easily damage the paint, causing it to alter its color or detach from the metal.
